Companion for the day :)

“I am born in Cal, I stay in Cal , I become old in Cal”

A month back when our country was still recovering from the first wave of pandemic I used to go for my regular cycle rides around the city.

It was a friday and I was staying at my parent’s place. I decided to use the city bikes to explore one of my favourite places — ‘Eco Park’ located in Newtown, Calcutta. I specifically enjoy riding the bike along the pathways that borders the lake.

As I glance towards the water I see the sparkle with each ripple. It has this dazzling effect. I wait there for sometime and enjoy the experience. Its just me and my thoughts… I start weaving stories in my mind. That’s the best part of my day :)

While I was still riding by the lake I observed something went passed by me. I looked further . I said to myself “ Boy! I have never seen something like this before!”

For the very first time I saw a man (somewhere in his late fifties)riding a recumbent bike customised to his needs.

I went up to him and asked “Hello! Do you mind if I take a few minutes of yours?” . I was inspired and wanted to learn more about his story rather journey I should say.

He smiled at me and we hit it off!

Riding in style and enjoying the comfort - Mr Sajal Ray

He explained to me the benefits of riding a recumbent bike. He named his companion ‘Sobuj Ghora’(Green Horse). I could relate with him when he said that the experience of riding has brought about a change in his life.

Through my bike rides I realised the power of story telling and what impact it can have to our immediate surroundings.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” — that’s the proverb which comes to my mind when I pen down my thoughts today .

Many more miles to go and many stories to uncover…. There lies the magic :)

Friends feel free to share your thoughts. I would love to hear from you.
